A new landmark on the banks of the Seine
Installed in Duclair, Seine-Maritime, this new monumental urban lettering strengthens the town’s visual identity in a highly visible location on the banks of the Seine. Produced using 3D concrete printing, the letters form a clean, contemporary installation positioned on a base reflecting the town’s visual identity.
This project once again demonstrates 3D Concrete’s ability to design custom XXL urban lettering specifically adapted to each location, its environment and the requirements of local authorities.
A first project with integrated LED spotlights
The main innovation of this project lies in the direct integration of LED spotlights into the installation. For the first time in one of our urban lettering projects, lighting was fully incorporated into the design from the outset.
The spotlights are positioned during manufacturing to highlight the letters after dark. Their programmable system makes it possible to define lighting schedules, illumination duration and displayed colors.
In Duclair, for example, a rainbow-colored sequence, notably associated with the LGBT+ flag, can be displayed, but the color palette remains fully customizable according to events, seasons or the municipality’s communication requirements.
Urban lettering ready for installation
The integrated lighting system was also designed to simplify on-site installation as much as possible. The system is prepared and pre-wired in our workshop, meaning the lettering arrives with its equipment already integrated, reducing the work required during installation.
This comprehensive design approach is one of the key advantages of custom 3D concrete printing: beyond the shape of the letters themselves, technical equipment, installation constraints and future uses can all be anticipated from the modeling stage.
A technology opening up new possibilities
Thanks to our additive manufacturing technology, we can extrude concrete following precise geometries and customize every component according to the project.
Concrete extrusion makes it possible to control volumes, depth, proportions and technical passages without developing specific formwork for every new shape.
This process offers considerable freedom for designing innovative urban lettering: integrated lighting, custom colors, logos, symbols, graphic elements and bespoke dimensions can all be developed to reflect the identity of a city or territory.
Urban furniture that evolves with the city
Urban lettering is no longer simply a city name installed in a public space. It can become a genuine communication toolthat evolves with local life.
Thanks to the programmable lighting used for the Duclair project, the same installation can change its atmosphere for celebrations, cultural events, causes supported by the municipality or simply different times of the year.
Combined with a controllable lighting solution, 3D-printed concrete brings a new dimension to urban lettering: robust and durable by day, dynamic and customizable by night.
For 3D Concrete, this project marks a new milestone in the development of our 3D-printed concrete lettering. Above all, it demonstrates that a project can go far beyond simply manufacturing letters, with a comprehensive approach combining design, innovation, technical integration and ease of installation.
